This Week in Austin | Ratatat, Redman, Riverboat Gamblers & More
It’s another fantastic week to be a music lover in Austin. Even though Hurricane Ike never made it this far, the weather has cooled down. Under 90 all week, means cooler nights and even cooler music in the clubs.
Monday 9/15
Ratatat @ Stubb’s (w/ E*Rock & Panther)
This NYC electro duo has been performing as Ratatat since 2004. Featured on everything from NPR to Knocked Up, check out Ratatat’s latest release entitled LP3
Gobi @ Beauty Bar (w/ Pissing Neon, The Saturday Night Matador & DJ Thibault)
Gobi is a must-see for local electro fans. Check out the piece I wrote about this show last week.
Tuesday 9/16
The Hives & Eagles of Death Metal @ Stubb’s (w/ Willowz)
A recommendation that needs no explanation. If you are lucky enough to attend this show, report back and let us know how it went!
The Story Of @ Stubb’s (inside, after The Hives)
Indie pop at it’s finest, check these guys out for free after The Hives & Eagles of Death Metal finish up outside.
Wednesday 9/17
Redman @ The Parish
Another recommendation that needs no introduction. See the veteran rapper/actor for free, courtesy of Scion. RSVP here.
Thursday 9/18
Riverboat Gamblers @ Emo’s (w/ Night Marchers & The Yuppie Pricks)
These Denton punk-rockers have been welcomed into the Austin fold. They were a last minute addition to the bill, which has upped the buzz.
Dubb Sicks @ Flamingo Cantina
One of Austin’s up and coming rappers. Originally from Odessa, Dubb Sicks brings fresh flavor to the mic.
Friday 9/19
Black Joe Lewis & The Honey Bears @ Mohawk (w/ Belaire & FreshMillions)
Local blues/soul band makes good. See Black Joe Lewis & Co at Mohawk if you won’t be seeing them at ACL.
Set Aflame @ Red 7 (w/ Goodnight Goddess & Grenadier)
Set Aflame is part of a jam-packed night at Red 7, perfect for fans of the heavy stuff. Metal and hardcore loud enough to shatter some eardrums.
Saturday 9/20
Car Stereo (Wars) @ Beauty Bar
If you like Girl Talk, check out Car Stereo (Wars). Download a free copy of Ghostface Observatory.
The Boxing Lesson @ Pecan Street Festival
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’re already familiar with this Space Rock trio. Check them out at Pecan Street, where you can walk around downtown with an open container!
Sunday 9/21
Ani DiFranco @ Stubb’s (w/ Jeff Klein)
Prolific to the tune of 19 albums, this feminist icon is a gifted singer-songwriter. DiFranco’s latest album is called Red Letter Year.
