The Boxing Lesson - Wild Streaks & Windy Days
Imagine Pink Floyd got together with Shiny Toy Guns and produced an indie-rock love child. That love child would be called The Boxing Lesson.
The Boxing Lesson is an Austin-based three piece, consisting of Paul Waclawsky, Jaylinn Davidson and Jake Mitchell. Formed by Waclawsky after moving to Austin from L.A. the band has built a solid reputation in town, gigging at venues like Emo’s, The Parish and Beauty Bar. Their brand of pychedelic electro-pop is definitely familiar, but also progressive and innovative, mixing Waclawsky’s vocals with Davidson’s backing harmonies. The psychedelic elements could very easily fit into an acid rock band, but The Boxing Lesson goes a more pop route, which I think was the right move on their part. The music is light and yet complex, pleasing to the ears and fresh. Other psych bands dwell too much in the heavy, leaving the listener wanting the last 45 mins of their life back, after being drowned in synthesizers.
The Boxing Lesson has some killer local shows coming up, so try to catch them before they leave for a West Coast tour in early May. You can see The Boxing Lesson this Saturday, 3/29 at Emo’s with The Alice Rose.
Their CD, Wild Streaks & Windy Days is available on iTunes and locally at Waterloo Records, End of an Ear and Cheapo’s Discs.

Hi, Ana,
I’ll be taking over TGM as soon as b5media makes sure I know how to write ;) Your blog will help me keep up with what’s going on Sixth Street. Let’s meet for coffee at Magnolia Cafe. Looking forward to learning more about the new groups in town.
