Austin Sound Check

I will fully admit to being pretty uneducated in the ways of extreme sports. This past Sunday was my first experience with an event boasting supposedly intense action. While I was expecting something of X-Games proportions, it was more like a party in a parking lot with a couple pools (wakeboarding) and a few plywood skate ramps.

It was a beautiful weekend in Austin and a fantastic time to be outdoors enjoying some live music. I caught Eve 6, Fair to Midland and Girl in a Coma at The Grind yesterday, but more on that later. For now, here are this week’s recommended shows.

The Grind is an annual event put on each year by Roadway Productions, the company responsible for other events like ROT Biker Rally and Batfest. The Grind features some of the best in alt rock talent alongside wakeboarding, skateboarding and street biking demonstrations.
The Grind 2008 is this Sunday, April 6th and features music from Mickey Avalon, Eve6 and San Antonio-based Girl in a Coma, among others. Although they aren’t from Austin, San Antonio is just a short drive down 35 and we’re lucky enough to see Girl in a Coma fairly regularly as they rise through the ranks. Signed …read more
