Austin Sound Check

SXSW has released an update to the list of showcasing bands for the 2009 music festival. As always, the list is subject to change, but this update brings the total to 1,800 acts that will be performing.
Highlights amongst the new additions include Afrikan Boy, The Black & White Years, The Dollyrots, Dan Dyer, Girl in a Coma, Jean Grae, Harlem, Kylesa, Lions, Manchester Orchestra, Meat Puppets, Tom Morello (The Nightwatchman), Riverboat Gamblers, Silversun Pickups, and Third Eye Blind among many many others. The Dollyrots singer Kelly Ogden sat down to share some of the band’s favorite Austin memories and how they got signed to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records. Excerpts of the interview are below. You can read the entire interview in this month’s InSite Magazine, on stands today.
The Dollyrots are playing Emo’s tomorrow, 7/4. If you aren’t too worn out from 4th of July festivities, stop by Emo’s for a great pop punk show. The Dollyrots are playing with Pink Spiders, The Higher and Poor People.

This week in Austin promises to be a fun one. Since the 4th of July falls on a Friday, there’s plenty of shows for your Thursday night enjoyment. Andrew WK, The Dollyrots and Dethklok are all touring through town this weekend. It’s definitely a good week to be fan of music in Austin. As an added bonus, I’ll have an interview with The Dollyrots lead singer, Kelly Ogden later this week. My full recommendations are below for your perusal.
