After spending the Thanksgiving holiday visiting family in St. Louis, I have to say I’ve got a greater appreciation for Austin music. The only decent shows in St. Louis over the weekend were Cowboy Mouth and a Stevie Ray Vaughn tribute band. Both of which I could see in Austin just about any given weekend.

Because of Thanksgiving, this week’s show recommendations are a bit thinner than usual. Thankfully (rimshot!) what we’re lacking in quantity, Austin’s local musicians fill with quality.
O’Death is the stand-out roadshow of the week, followed by a hearty line-up of local luminaries like Band of Heathens, Dan Dyer, Suzanna Choffel and The Scabs. If you’ve got family in town for the holiday, be sure to take them to a show. It wouldn’t be an Austin Thanksgiving without a little live music to go with all that fried turkey.

Road Trip | Austin Music Dominates South Padre International Music Fest

If you’re an Austin music fan in need of a getaway, look no further than the 2008 South Padre International Music Fest. The Festival takes place from October 31 through November 2 and is spread out over ten venues across the island.
The lineup is packed with Austin musicians, including Willie Nelson, Ghostland Observatory, Alejandro Escovedo, Del Castillo, Grupo Fantasma, Fastball, Guy Forsyth, Vallejo, and Suzanna Choffel. Other non-Austinite notables include Fog Hat, Los Lonely Boys and Blue Oyster Cult. Additional performers will be announced.
