SXSW Thursday kicked off early in the afternoon, at the NPR Music for the Right Brain showcase at the Parish.
I’d originally gotten to The Parish early to get a good spot for K’naan’s first set of the day, but in the process got to see two good bands previously unknown to me. Blind Pilot played a rousing set of classic downtempo Americana, complete with a banjo, standup bass, trumpet and even a xylophone. The Decemberists Added to NPR SXSW Showcase

The Decemberists Added to NPR SXSW Showcase

Portland’s original baroque pop band, The Decemberists, have been added to the NPR Showcase at SXSW 2009. The showcase is scheduled for Stubb’s on March 18th, and will be hosted by NPR luminaries including blogger Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney) and David Brown, host of KUT’s Texas Music Matters.
The Decemberists will be previewing their new album Hazards of Love in it’s entirety at the NPR showcase, before it is released on March 24th. You can download a free MP3 of The Rake’s Song from Hazards of Love on The Decemberists’ website.
