Dave’s accomplishments in Nirvana and Foo Fighters in the 90’s were groundbreaking. But in this decade, they’ve become overplayed and overexposed. The Foo Fighters are the least exciting band on the 2008 ACL lineup.

The Foo Fighters in the 90’s were fresh, they were new and they were different. In the new millenium, the band seems to have fallen into what I refer to as “The Nickelback blackhole.” Starting with 2002’s One By One, the Foo Fighters have produced nothing but banal, inconsequential radio hits. Their current singles all sound alike and leave me completely uninspired to listen to any deeper cuts. The Foo Fighters have become so one-note that I wouldn’t even download a leaked copy of Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. When our local modern-rock station plays Foo Fighters, I change the station everytime. It’s just that bad.

I might go see the Foo Fighters performance at ACL, if only out of deference for what they did in the 90’s. All it will take is Long Road to Ruin or The Pretender and you’ll find me sulking at the beer booth furthest from the AT&T stage.

The Foo Fighters headline ACL Sunday, September 28th at 8:30pm on the AT&T Stage.

Post from: Austin Sound Check

90’s Soundtrack to an Afternoon

Uncategorized

90's music

beastie boys

dr. dre

faith no more

flys

foxboro hot tubs

garbage

nirvana

sneaker pimps

white zombie

Lately my music selection has been pretty heavy on the 90’s end of things. Meanwhile, I’ve been waiting patiently for the 90’s to take the driver’s seat back. It seems that the rest of the world is starting to agree. Meanwhile, I’ve been waiting patiently for the 90’s to take the driver’s seat back.

It seems that the rest of the world is starting to agree. We can only hope this means the end of skinny jeans and guy-liner.

Without further ado, I present you with some of the best 90’s music that was the soundtrack to my afternoon.

Rage Against the Machine – Down Rodeo
I’m secretly hoping they will play ACL 2008.

Foxboro Hot Tubs – Ruby Room
Included because Green Day finally admitted what we all knew.

Flys – Got You Where I Want You
From the Disturbing Behavior soundtrack, this one will get stuck in your head.

Dr. Dre – California Love
One of my favorite hip-hop songs of all time, it will get me moving everytime.

Nirvana – Verse Chorus Verse
I can’t write about 90’s music without mentioning Nirvana. One of their best, but lesser known songs.

Faith No More – Midlife Crisis
Lead singer Mike Patton is one of the enduring talents of the 90’s. I’m a huge fan of his new work with Peeping Tom.

Garbage – Stupid Girl
Rumors abound that Garbage is getting back together. Butch Vig says they’ll be recording new material this year.

Beastie Boys – Super Disco Breakin’
This track is from my favorite Beasties album to date, Hello Nasty.

Sneaker Pimps – 6 Underground
The only Sneaker Pimps album featuring Kelli Alli on lead vocals. Not surprising, they haven’t done anything noteworthy since.

White Zombie – Black Sunshine
One of the best White Zombie tracks and Guitar Hero 3 favorite.

Post from: Austin Sound Check
