The Black & White Years – SXSW Interview & Performance

The Black & White Years had arguably the best SXSW of any band, local or otherwise. They won five Austin Music Awards, including Best New Band, Best Rock Band, Best Song (Power to Change), Best Bass Player (John Aldridge) and Producer of the Year (Jerry Harrison).

The band also played a multitude of showcases during SXSW and were interviewed by Toby Ryan of 101X. Check out the video above, including live performance footage.

]]> The Black & White Years’ rise to fame has been quick by industry standards, and for good reason. The electro/new-wave four-piece was discovered at an unofficial SXSW showcase at Opal Divine’s on 6th St. None other than Talking Head Jerry Harrison was in attendance at the parking lot show and ended up producing B&WY’s first album. The band’s music is currently being distributed through pioneering internet label RCRD LBL, an innovative feather in B&WY’s cap.

The Black & White Years have been selected as this week’s CMJ SonicBids spotlight artists, adding another line to their quickly growing resume. They’ve also struck a deal with RCRD LBL, conquered SXSW and are slated to play ACL this year.

Local and national media alike have endorsed The Black & White Years as an artist to watch in 2008. Fortunately for The Black & White Years, their big break was being discovered by Jerry Harrison of the Talking Heads, who decided to produce their album after reviews drew comparisons between the two bands. Check The Black & White Years out on MySpace and on their website to hear what everyone’s talking about.
