This week’s show recommendations are absolutely packed from start to finish with good music. This is definitely one of the best week’s of music in Austin that I’ve seen since I started putting these recommendations together over a year ago.
There are equal amounts of good local shows and good roadshows, leaving some tough decisions to be made. Who are you going to see this week?

SXSW has released an update to the list of showcasing bands for the 2009 music festival. As always, the list is subject to change, but this update brings the total to 1,800 acts that will be performing.
Highlights amongst the new additions include Afrikan Boy, The Black & White Years, The Dollyrots, Dan Dyer, Girl in a Coma, Jean Grae, Harlem, Kylesa, Lions, Manchester Orchestra, Meat Puppets, Tom Morello (The Nightwatchman), Riverboat Gamblers, Silversun Pickups, and Third Eye Blind among many many others. 101X Homegrown Live presents Built By Snow, Harlem and Hollywood Gossip, tonight at Creekside Lounge.
These three bands are some of the hottest indie acts in town right now and rightfully so. Built By Snow and Hollywood Gossip are both riding high after recent album releases and Harlem’s “mutant garage rock” has the hype machine in overdrive. Word of mouth is that Harlem has some tasty early Nirvana influences.
