Girl in a Coma Issue Statement on Arrests

By now, you’ve probably heard the news about two members of Girl in a Coma getting arrested at Chance’s in Houston after the band performed there in late March.
Lead singer Nina Diaz and bassist Jenn Alva were charged with felony assault on a public servant after an altercation involving off-duty police officers working security at the club. Witness statements have surfaced regarding the officers’ use of force against Alva and are painting a pretty dark picture of the Houston police department.

SXSW Q & A with Girl in a Coma

San Antonio natives Girl in a Coma have had quiet the last couple of years. Since the 2007 release of their debut album Both Before I’m Gone, the all girl three piece has toured extensively. That included tour dates with Morrissey, Tegan & Sara and Toadies.
As a further testament to the awesomeness that is GIAC, the band has been selected to play SXSW again this year. Later in 2009 Girl in a Coma is also expected to release their follow-up sophomore effort which is eagerly anticipated among fans and critics alike.

Girl In A Coma Confirmed for SXSW

All girl indie trio Girl In a Coma has been confirmed to play SXSW according to a statement posted on MySpace. No stranger to the festival, this will be GIAC’s third time playing SXSW, most likely at a showcase for their label, Blackheart Records.
The San Antonio-based band plays in Austin regularly year round and has built up a solid local following. Their debut album Both Before I’m Gone was received well by fans and critics alike, which has only intensified the buzz around their forthcoming sophomore release, reportedly out in 2009.

Judging by the crowd at Emo’s Lounge on Friday night, the word is out about Girl in a Coma. The setlist from Emo’s is below, along with the video for Say. Pictures from the front row after the jump.
GIAC recently finished recording their update to 2007’s Both Before I’m Gone. The new album will be available in 2009 on Blackheart Records. The Emo’s show was about 50% new/unreleased material; just enough to leave you curious.

Girl in a Coma at Pachanga Fest this Saturday

The first annual Pachanga Festival will be held this Saturday at Waterloo Park. Headliners include Vallejo, Grupo Fantasma, Maneja Beto and many more. I’m most excited to see San Antonio natives Girl in a Coma.
As if being signed to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records wasn’t enough, the Girls are fresh off a solid year of touring which saw them opening for Morrissey in Europe. I should also mention that they play Austin regularly, including SXSW 2007 and 2008. After Pachanga Fest, Girl in a Coma is performing at the Oklahoma City stop on Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Tour.
