This Week in Austin | Rubberhed Reunion, Blind Pilot + More

As always there is some excellent music to be had in Austin this week. Local highlights include long awaited reunion shows from Rubberhed and Nooner. In roadshow news, Blind Pilot returns to town after a very successful run at SXSW.
Full recommendations are below for your viewing pleasure. Be sure and leave a comment if you plan on attending any of these shows.
Monday, April 6
Shiny Toy Guns @ Antone’s
Pure electro rock, STG are perfect for when you just wanna dance and have a good time.
Pixies Hoot Night @ Mohawk
Since we probably won’t get an actual Pixies show anytime soon, enjoy a hoot night. Who knows, after a few beers you might not even notice the difference!
Tuesday, April 7
Blind Pilot @ Mohawk
Twangy Americana that wow’ed SXSW crowds. Diverse instrumentation and a cathartic stage show really make Blind Pilot stand out.
Cruiserweight @ Antone’s
They’re pop. They’re punk. What more can I say? Cruiserweight never disappoints. Plain White T’s headline, though I can’t say I’m a fan.
Thursday, April 9
Built By Snow @ Emo’s (inside)
Austin’s own geek rock gods who continually deliver their electro tinged jams with a fervor that’s catching.
Greyhounds @ Lamberts
Soulful, jazzy funk that can’t miss. Greyhounds was recently featured on KUT and seem to be gathering steam. Check them out now, while they’re still in small venues.
Friday, April 10
Rubberhed Reunion with FireKills, Driver F and Zlam Dunk @ Red Eyed Fly
One of Austin’s most beloved rock bands reunites after five years to benefit a family member battling cancer. With sets from Driver F, Zlam Dunk and a one-year reunion from FireKills, I guarantee this show will sell out.
Saturday, April 11
Nooner Reunion with Motionside, Freebleeder and Blackfeet @ Dirty Dog
Part two of this week’s local reunions, Nooner returns to the stage for a special one night only ‘this is it’ reunion. I personally helped organize this show to celebrate upcoming nuptials of a close friend and colleague, so if you’re out and about stop in and say hi.
