This Week in Austin | Slightly Stoopid, Born to Lose, T-Bird and The Breaks & More

It seems that the SXSW hangover is finally over, as some of Austin’s best locals are playing this week. The lone roadshow recommendation is SoCal dub rockers Slightly Stoopid who always electrify the crowd at Stubb’s. They’ve also played ACL numerous times, but as you’ll read later this week in my interview with drummer RyMo, Slightly Stoopid will not be returning to ACL this year.

Full recommendations are below for your perusal. Who are you planning to see in Austin this week?

Thursday, April 2nd
Tribella @ Mohawk
New Wave inspired Indie Pop from an all female trio whose sound is reminiscent of Liz Phair.

American Graveyard @ Red Eyed Fly
A rowdy blend of bluegrass and punk that’s just plain down and dirty, but oh so good.

Friday, April 3rd
Born to Lose @ Red 7
These guys are home between European treks, so if you’re in the mood for a raucous dose of pure punk, this is it. Born to Lose will also be playing Warped Tour later this summer.

Invincible Czars @ Scoot Inn
This is the CD release show for Invincible Czars’ latest album Fortissimo. Come hear the latest in homegrown experimental rock. Black & white attire is encouraged.

Raw Deal 3rd Anniversary Party @ Red Eyed Fly
Celebrate Raw Deal Productions’ three years helping local bands get their start with performances by local favorites She Craves and Sixes & Eights among others.

T-Bird & The Breaks @ Austin City Hall Plaza
See one of Austin’s biggest buzz bands play a free show outside in the City Hall Plaza at Noon. Soul with a side of rock will be served.

Saturday, April 4th
Slightly Stoopid @ Stubb’s
These San Diego natives are perennial Austin favorites. Blending reggae, dub and punk with rock, if you enjoy Sublime or Pepper, Slightly Stoopid is for you.

Car Stereo Wars Glow in the Dark Party @ Beauty Bar
Car Stereo Wars will be spinning tasty mashups at this annual party, along with performances from Zlam Dunk and MEGAtes. Bonus: free glow in the dark pictures and glowsticks will be available.
