SXSW Q & A with Uncle Lucius
Southern rock tinged with blues is a sound that is classically Austin to this day. Locals Uncle Lucius embrace their roots while giving it their own modern twist. They band will be releasing their sophomore album, Pick Your Head Up on Booclap Records April 7th.

Ana Wolken : What inspires Uncle Lucius’ soulful southern rock?
Kevin Galloway : The blues, the Stax sound and outlaw country.
AW : Is your writing a collaborative effort?
KG : For the most part, yes.
AW : What can we expect from your new album?
KG : The sound is all analog. Kind of a throwback with a modern twist.
AW : How has life in the live music capitol of the world treated the band?
KG : It’s been a great learning experience. Paying dues in a town full of aspiring musicians just makes you better faster.
AW : What does this SXSW showcase mean to the band?
KG : It means we are ready for the next level. Just being accepted is confirmation we are on the right track. Were as excited as little schoolgirls.
AW : What other SXSW artists are you excited to see?
KG : Jane’s Addiction (rumor?), Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, Cold War Kids, and Quincy Jones baby!
AW : If Uncle Lucius could be opening support for any band currently active or not, who would it be? Why?
KG : The Rolling Stones, because they are The Rolling Stones!
AW : What are Uncle Lucius’ plans for the near future?
KG : We are taking the show on the road. Hitting the Midwest in April and the Southeast in May. The first weekend in June we are playing our first outdoor music festival (Wakarusa). If we are still alive after that, we will do it again.
