Rumored Headliners for ACL 2009 [Update: Pearl Jam Confirmed]

Our friends at Austin360 have the latest rumors on the Austin City Limits Festival’s 2009 headliners. According to their anonymous, but chatty source, the headliners will be Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, Dave Matthews Band, Kings of Leon and Ghostland Observatory.

Austinites Ghostland Observatory certainly wouldn’t come as a surprise, and I’ve previously told you about the Kings of Leon rumor. I wouldn’t be all that surprised to see the other three bands, heavy in the 90’s nostalgia factor, appear on the lineup. Though I could personally do without Pearl Jam all together.

What do you think of the rumored headliners? Who else would you like to see at ACL 2009?

[UPDATE - 10:55am] I’ve confirmed with an anonymous source, independent of Austin360, that Pearl Jam will in fact headline ACL 2009.

Those aren’t my favorite acts, but I definitely prefer the 90’s nostalgia acts over previous headliners like Robert Plant, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, and Van Morrison. Nothing against the old guys, they are great, but I prefer shows with a little more energy than what they are capable of these days. I’ve actually had trouble staying through their sets, and would love to see more energetic bands or even some hip-hop headliners for once.

Those bands seem very likely though. It seems odd for Ghostland to be considered a headliner, but they definitely got the crowd going at their previous night slot.

I will have to agree with Larry. I’m not crazy excited but these acts are much better than wayyyyy past their prime acts like Dylan and Willie. Don’t get me wrong, I love Dylan, but the guy can barely speak anymore.

    Buuuuut…. Dave Mathews Band? Really?

And Kings of Leon as a headliner? No

I will be front and center singing every song to every Pearl Jam song.

Pearl Jam is rumored every year… I don’t buy it until its on the ACL website. If it’s true, you’ll be able to find my front and center.

Doubt if you will, but with the reissue of Ten on the way, it only makes sense.

Skipped Foo Fighters last year…WILL NOT skip PJ….regardless of sandle wearing dudes opinion. “90s nostalgia”….1) they are more relavent today then EVER…and 2) other than PJ every band you’ve semi peed over is much more predictable. Love Austin except for all the predictable wannabes…..

If it is true, I will be ecstatic to see Pearl Jam in my own state. They were amazing at Bonnaroo last year. Kings of Leon is a great live band. Can’t wait to hear the official news!

Wow. I will be super happy if DMB plays because I was going to miss them this year to see another super band of the 90s… No Doubt.

I love Kings of Leon and I had to miss them last year to attend a friend’s wedding. The music gods do hear my prayers!

That’s all fine and good but with all those people headlining, I hope that their irrigation project works out at Zilker. The dust will suck. These headliners will bring in a good 10k extra folks than the past years. DMB alone probably. Any word on Glasvegas?

KINGS OF LEON is all I have to say. This is their 4th release, but each one just keeps getting better. They are kind of like Pearl Jam in reverse, and way more HUMBLE! Not to say I don’t like TEN. Can’t wait to see the Followill boy’s live – hope they don’t party too hard before they go on, especially Caleb.

Pearl Jam and DMB will be amazing. PJ hasn’t diminished in all of it’s years as a band. They will kill. And DMB will be great as always. Don’t know what they will do with out Leroi Moore. I couldn’t be more stoked about the Beasties too. All three of these bands have maintained their youthfulness and thus their ability to appeal to fans of all ages. Now if only we could get Social D or Bad Religion to bring in the punk.

ACL Fest had an illustration of 2 oysters “jamming” into each other up for a few hours today. Could be an actual Pearl Jam confirmation.

Now there’s a line-up to be proud of. DMB… REALLY?

I’m guessing ACL’s beats Lolla’s…its not that great. Hard to compare anyway…I think ACL does a better job catering to people who love multiple genres and different generations…not so much with Lolla or Boonaroo for that matter. One reason many critics thought ACL was the best festival of 2008. Cheers to 2009 and I like what I’m hearing so far! :)

Worst Lineup EVER! This is supposed to be the powerhouse we’ve been hearing about. Outdated crap laced with new junk with no substance. Eek a mouse is cool, why isn’t he on the big list? If we’re going to relive the 90s, Sonic Youth should be headlining over Pearl Jam. Ben Harper already headlined and Ghostland needs to learn how to play instruments, button pushing is only entertaining if you have massive amounts of street drugs, is this what we are promoting?

And why bother comparing this to Lollapalooza, C3 booked the same acts, except Lollapalooza is better with Jane’s Addiction and Tool rather than DMB (gag me).
