More Austin City Limits Festival Lineup Leaks

Last week I brought you exclusive ACL lineup leaks, including Pearl Jam and Mos Def. A source who wishes to remain anonymous has confirmed additional bands to Austin Sound Check, including The B-52s, Sonic Youth, John Legend and Thievery Corporation.
These four artists each bring something different to the Austin City Limits stage. I’m excited to see that ACL is including a well-rounded list of both new and old favorites.
The entire list of rumored performers is below. Who excites you most from this list? Are there any other bands you think Austin City Limits should book for the 2009 festival?

Pearl Jam*
Beastie Boys
Dave Matthews Band
Ghostland Observatory
Kings of Leon*
Mos Def*
The B-52s*

These bands mostly suck. Pearl Jam, Beasties, B-52s and Dave Matthews? What is this, a 2009 music festival or a 1999??? I could have listed Sonic Youth too, but thats actually an okay choice.
THe beauty of ACL is a lineup like 2007 — a mix of all that is good and new. That is what the people want.
Cut the crap on these re-hashed middle-aged crisis bands.
Thanks for your support.
I hope for this is a joke because that is a terrible way to start a lineup.
FRANZ FERDINAND, BLUE OCTOBER, ARCTIC MONKEYS, KANYE WEST, EAGLES OF DEATH METAL, DAN AUERBACH, THE BLACK AND WHITE YEARS, MY MORNING JACKET, MGMT, YEAH YEAH YEAHS, BOB SCHNEIDER, GOMEZ, BOWLING FOR SOUP, MATT & KIM, THE COOL KIDS, RAY LAMONTAGNE, ADELE, EASY STAR ALL-STARS, CITIZEN COPE, AMOS LEE, THE BLACK KIDS, TINTED WINDOWS, CAGE THE ELEPHANT, STREET SWEEPER…

Bowling for Soup??? dork. How bout some Mastodon, or Faith No More

No wonder they put the wristbands on sale 3 weeks before announcing the lineup… out of date (Lollipalooza 1992) bands who reformed just to make some cash on the summer tours headlining, with the usual local folk acts for the rest of the lineup. If ACL doesn’t change this, a lot of cheap re-sale wristbands will be available the day the lineup is announced.
I second the Mastodon vote.
I think you people are being too picky. This year’s rumors sound exciting as hell. True it’s hard to match that great lineup in 07 (minus the fact of the bands pulling out), but I have faith in ACL’s picks for the festival. I’m very glad to hear so much about Kings of Leon and Beastie Boys appearing, and for those that make note of so many older bands being here, so what?
For us younger attendents, we missed many of the nineties bands because, well, we were still in middle school and junior high. I would love to see many of the bands from when I was growing up and am excited to see so many bands from the 90’s on tour this year.
I am so excited about the lineup. If you don’t like it don’t go. And yes I love the 90’s!! I just hope my favs don’t play at the same time.
I love this line up (if true) ! So what if we throw it back to the 90’s with some of the best bands of that decade like pearl, Sonic, Beastie Boys and DAve Matthews. I guess you all forget it’s a music festival celebrating the old and the new and all genres of music. Screw You, I’m glad to be a part of it….If your a true music lover you will appreciate seeing pearl jam live!
I agree with the line up being weak. Paul McCartney!!!!!!!! I have been saying it for 2 years now and Cochella be em to it. Totally Lame!!!!!!!!
These are reported headliners. Langerado in South Florida learned its lesson when they tried to top R.E.M. (2008) by making Death Cab for Cutie a headliner. IT DOESN’T WORK. I’d much rather have a tested, tried and true live band (Pearl Jam) as a headliner than a flash in the pan who can build hype. I doubt DMB will do the festival – they can make enough money touring on their own. And Sonic Youth can still rock the shit out of bands 1/3 of their age.
If I had to guess in terms of other acts to follow?
Andrew Bird
Camera Obscura
Neko Case (again PLEASE!)
Mountain Goats
M. Ward
Mates of State
Asobi Seksu
Art Brut
Fleet Foxes
TV on the Radio
The Decemberists
Bon Iver
I guessed Sonic Youth before I read any predictions and that was a longshot (because they are my favorite band). Hoooray.
I wants some Arcade fire…. Their 07 show was one of the most amazing shows of my life. Muse’s new album will be out by ACL ‘09 (supposedly)…. what do you think the chances are that they might be on tour for that?
I hope Muse plays. They are one of my favorites. Their 2007 performance was one of the best ACL performances I’ve seen to date.
Yeah, this lineup is so weak, where is the sepultura, kitty, slayer and napalm death? why cant it be more like rockfest? F*ing hippies.
PS: I heart Bjork
as long as Kings Of Leon is playing, I’m there!!!!!
The lineup I’d like to see
Nine Inch Nails
Kanye West
Pearl Jam
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Portishead
Mos Def & Talib Kwali
Circa Survive
Dead Prez
The Gaslight Anthem
Pepper
Santogold PLEASE!!!
I totally agree with one of the comments above about having good 90s bands for those of us who were too young to enjoy them the first time around. I was only 12 in 1999 so I was not able to go to these older bands when they were newer and young…I like it
90s bands all the way, I would even love some old 80s like The Cure or The Police
Agreed that this is not the best line-up. How can you look at Coachella’s line up and say that this is a GREAT music fest for 2009? Keep the bands here, scatter them throughout the day, and bring more names both new and old. If not, i predict an early exit for many!
I KNOW IT I KNOW IT!!!
U2 AND MUSE!!!
I’LL PUT $$$ ON IT!!!!!
[...] Sound Check previously confirmed that Pearl Jam would be headlining via a leak that also includes Dave Matthews Band, [...]
This would be an awesome start to the lineup and deffinately seal the deal on me heading down to austin from dallas for my first ACL!!! My first concert was Pearl Jam in austin in 1995!!! And there is no way I would miss an opportunity to relive that experience!!! Now if there was just some way that the Ramones would be opening for them again!!! (Dont see that happening) But seriously, If you have never seen them live you are in for a real treat! Last year at Bonnaroo was my 4th time seeing them! They are like a fine wine, only getting better with age!!!
I hope you are right in that they are getting better with age. Saw them open for Dramarama in 1991, that was as it got for them to me. Saw them in 95 as well, absolutely terrible. Hopefully the sound production will be good, Pearl Jam absolutely needs a good sound guy to be even remotely entertaining.
DMB. Edgy!
“A lot of cheap resale wristbands will be for sale after the official line up” Obviously you underestimate the influence that Pearl Jam has made on the entire music world. Pearl Jam will bring 60,000 by themselves. Pearl Jam, Beasties, KOL, Sonic Youth, Dead Weather, Modest Mouse, Band of Horses, Silversun Pickups, TV on the Radio! Are you kidding me that Im even seeing 2007 comparisons. Do us a favor and stay home!
