This Week in Austin | Bavu Blakes, Scott Biram, Harlem & More
This week the holidays are finally upon us, and the music has slowed down considerably. Though I recommend after Christmas shows to get over that horrible sweater your aunt gave you this year.
I’ll be at the Bavu Blakes / Gary Clark Jr. show on Saturday and I recommend you all follow suit. I saw Bavu Blakes & The Extra Plairs at ACL (along with a guest appearance from Gary Clark Jr.) and I’ve been chomping at the bit to see them again ever since.
Friday 12/26
Chili Cold Blood @ Continental Club
Classic Austin-style southern rock with some tasty blues thrown in.
Betaplayer @ Hole in the Wall
Experimental hip-hop like you’ve never heard.
For the Most Part @ Red Eyed Fly
Post-hardcore rock that deservedly won Battle of the Bands X at Red Eyed Fly.
Saturday 12/27
Bavu Blakes & The Extra Plairs and Gary Clark Jr. @ Antone’s
Soulful hip-hop combined with the massive guitar skills of Gary Clark Jr. can only equal an unforgettable show.
Scott H. Biram @ Red Eyed Fly
One man swampgrass (that’s dirty Southern bluegrass) and a true original. Scott Biram is a must see for fans of Austin music.
Sunday 12/28
Shapes Have Fangs and Harlem @ Beerland
Two of Austin indie rock’s biggest buzz bands right now. Perfect way to wind down the holiday weekend.
