This Week in Austin | O’Death, The Scabs, Dan Dyer & More
Because of Thanksgiving, this week’s show recommendations are a bit thinner than usual. Thankfully (rimshot!) what we’re lacking in quantity, Austin’s local musicians fill with quality.
O’Death is the stand-out roadshow of the week, followed by a hearty line-up of local luminaries like Band of Heathens, Dan Dyer, Suzanna Choffel and The Scabs. If you’ve got family in town for the holiday, be sure to take them to a show. It wouldn’t be an Austin Thanksgiving without a little live music to go with all that fried turkey.
Tuesday 11/25
Band of Heathens @ Saxon Pub
Fusing southern rock with blues and a touch of traditional country, Band of Heathens can do no wrong. A true Austin original.
Wednesday 11/26
O’Death @ Mohawk (inside)
Punk, goth and jug band style mountain music make strange bedfellows, but O’Death pulls their unique sound off in a totally captivating way. Read my interview with lead singer Greg Jamie here.
Dan Dyer & Suzanna Choffel @ Momo’s
Two of Austin’s brightest rising stars together at one of the best rooms in town. Now kicking myself for booking an early flight out for Thanksgiving.
Thursday 11/27
The Scabs @ Antone’s
A holiday tradition, Bob Schneider’s raunchy funk / lounge project is a must see. Might want to leave Granny at home for this one!
Friday 11/28
Honky @ Red Eyed Fly
Straight-up southern rock featuring Pinkus of Butthole Surfers. Need I say more?
Saturday 11/29
Follow That Bird! @ Austin Moose Lodge #1735
Indie riotgrrl style punk with a pop twist. Fans of The Pixies and Sleater-Kinney, I dare you to resist!
