This Week in Austin | Murs, The Cool Kids, The Lemurs & Pong
Start things off this week with a cornucopia of good road shows, including Sleepercar, Murs, Method Man & Red Man, Dragonforce, OneRepublic and Q-Tip & The Cool Kids.
Follow that up with a weekend packed with incredible local talent like The Lemurs, Pong, Iron Age and The Calm Blue Sea and you’ll see why Austin really is The Live Music Capitol of the World.
Monday, November 17
Sleepercar @ Mohawk
Come see what Jim Ward has been up to since At The Drive-In/Sparta. Should be a good show for those of you who were disappointed Sleepercar cancelled on Fun Fun Fun Fest.
Tuesday, November 18
Murs @ Emo’s (inside)
Definitely one of the hottest rappers to cross over from underground to mainstream, Murs should put on one hell of a show.
Method Man & Red Man @ Emo’s (outside)
This show was moved from Stubb’s, presumably due to the cold. Should be a packed house at Emo’s, with this show outside and Murs inside.
Wednesday, November 19
Dragonforce @ Stubb’s
I may go to this show, just to heckle guitarists Herman Li and Sam Totman for ruining my score on Guitar Hero 3.
OneRepublic @ La Zona Rosa
This recommendation will probably cause me to lose some cred, but I could care less. OneRepublic can write some catchy ballads and sometimes that’s just what the doctor ordered.
Thursday, November 20
Q-Tip & The Cool Kids @ Stubb’s
A must see for hip-hop fans, this show brings the best of old school and new old school together.
Friday, November 21
The Lemurs @ Emo’s (outside)
Local indie heroes return to the town that spawned them for what promises to be an incredible night.
Pong & Foot Patrol (CD release) @ Continental Club
If you like slide whistles and songs about feet, this show is for you. Quirky, yet genius, both of this bands will have your rocking out with your weird out.
Saturday, November 22
Iron Age & Lions of Tsavo @ Red 7 (inside)
Local metal done right. Both of these bands have been melting faces in Austin for a while and I don’t expect that this show at Red 7 will be any different.
The Calm Blue Sea @ Red 7 (outside)
An odd pairing at Red 7, with a metalocalypse happening inside at the same time that The Calm Blue Sea will be rocking you instrumentally outside. Step out for a smoke and to give your eardrums a breather. You’ll be glad you did.
The Black Crowes @ Austin Music Hall
Long time Austin favorites, Chris Robinson & Co. rarely disappoint. Hippies and yippies alike will enjoy this one.
