This Week in Austin | Horrorpops, The Scabs, Full Service & Rock y Roll Dia
It’s Halloween week in Austin, which means all the best in local and regional talent make their way to the stage, in the mix with choice touring acts who know this is the best time of year to stop in Austin. Check out this week’s recommendations below for everything from psychobilly to pop punk to lounge, latin and hardcore rap.
Monday 10/27
Horrorpops @ Emo’s (outside)
Female-fronted psychobilly goodness. They’ve been at it since 1996 and never been better.
Tuesday 10/28
Hellogoodbye @ Emo’s (outside)
Indie pop for the text messaging masses. Check out their DVD entitled OMG HGB DVD ROTFL.
Wednesday 10/29
Dubb Sicks @ Flamingo Cantina
One of the better rap shows in town and worth checking out if you’re one of the few hip-hop fans who hasn’t.
Thursday 10/30
The Scabs @ Antone’s
See Bob Schneider in his best incarnation yet, The Scabs. It’s lounge, it’s swing, it’s Texas, it’s wonderfully vulgar and you will have a good time.
Adrian & The Sickness @ Headhunters
Dreadlock swinging, high flying, rock & roll. Headhunter’s is an intimate venue for a band with a much larger sound. Perfect for the in-your-faceness of their live show.
Friday 10/31
Cruiserweight and Driver F @ Emo’s (inside)
Fun, light pop punk on both sides. Good clean fun with an irreverent edge.
Full Service @ Flamingo Cantina
Home after a summer Takeover Tour, see them live in a club for one of their “easy” sets that will rock you. Look for A Fansaw’s Guide to Full Service from Austin Soundcheck this week.
Saturday 11/1
Rock y Roll Dia @ Mohawk
Featuring Los Amigos Invisibles, Monte Negro and Charanga Cakewalk, Dia is the year’s premiere showcase for Rock en Español . Benefiting Cine Las Americas and Latinitas, this multimedia all ages event is not to be missed. Stay tuned for an interview with Monte Negro later this week.
