Brooklyn Vegan is reporting that Flipper has cancelled their upcoming tour, including a stop at Fun Fun Fun Fest in Austin. Rumors circulating indicate that the Flipper meltdown occurred when bassist Krist Novoselic (ex-Nirvana) left the band.
Fun Fun Fun Fest organizers are reportedly on the hunt for a replacement band. The annual festival is scheduled for November 8 – 9  this year, at Waterloo Park in downtown Austin.

British Invasion Dance Party with Dans La Lune, The Ugly Beats

British Invasion Dance Party with Dans La Lune, The Ugly Beats

Head to Beauty Bar this Friday for the British Invasion Dance Party. Featuring music by Dans La Lune, The Ugly Beats, Wine & Revolution and DJ Prince Klassen, it’s definitely going down at Beauty Bar.
Dans La Lune brings vintage, danceable pop rock to the table. They have a very classic, early Beatles sound.  The Ugly Beats also have a classic vibe, but its a more raw, garage punk sound ala The Clash. The Ugly Beats were also announced on this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest lineup. This is a good chance to catch them in a smaller venue for a …read more

Austin Label Brings Dutch Hip Hop to the US

When most people think of Austin Music, they don’t often associate our fair town with hip-hop. Austin-based label Beats Broke is swimming against the current of Austin Music and bringing something new and refreshing to the table. Beats Broke works almost exclusively with hip-hop artists from The Netherlands.
Ryan Goeller, founder of Beats Broke, recently took some time to answer questions about what influenced him to work with Dutch artists as well as US contemporaries that he’s currently jamming. Read below for the interview, along with information on the new album by Beats Broke artist Arts the Beatdoctor.

Car Stereo (Wars) at Beauty Bar Saturday

Car Stereo (Wars) at Beauty Bar Saturday

The weather in Austin is finally cooling down and it’s going to be a great weekend to be out and about enjoying Austin’s finest music. One must-see show is Car Stereo (Wars) set at Beauty Bar on Saturday 9/20.
If you’re a fan of Girl Talk, CS(W) is for you.  However, CS(W) is the superior mixer in my opinion. Greg Gillis hasn’t mashed Ghostface Killer and Ghostland Observatory.

ACL Preview | Dan Dyer’s Soul Revival

ACL Preview | Dan Dyer’s Soul Revival

No matter how much modern rock ACL organizers put in the lineup, the festival will always be Austin music at its core. One of the first and finest acts to take the stage in the three-day auditory binge is Austinite Dan Dyer.
A working musician for two decades, Dyer has recently climbed the ranks in Austin with his fresh neo-soul that is both funky and intense. Dyer’s vocals reach a high falsetto, at times Jamiroquai-like. His overall sound is rooted in classics like Stevie Wonder with modern touches reminiscent of Citizen Cope and John Legend.
Dan Dyer’s self-titled album was released on …read more
