What do you want to see on Austin Sound Check?

Austin Sound Check has been around for just about 5 months now. It’s high time I got some input, from you, the readers.
This blog is focused on the Austin music scene, whether that means locals or touring bands that come to town. Are there any musicians out there that you want me to cover? Tell me what you’d like to read about! Interviews, CD reviews, live show photos. The sky’s the limit and I want to be sure you’re getting the content you want.
Who are your favorite Austin musicians? Any and all responses are welcome in the comment section.

Enchanted Forest Owner Issues Call to Action

Enchanted Forest Owner Issues Call to Action

Albert Deloach, owner of  Enchanted Forest, has issued a call via MySpace for people to attend tonight’s city council meeting and voice their concerns over the closing of Enchanted Forest.
Enchanted Forest is 3 1/2 acres of land on W. Oltorf that was used for various purposes, including art exhibitions, live music and fundraisers for nonprofit groups. At least up until the city shut Enchanted Forest down last Friday, July 18, due to noise violation complaints. In an interview with the Austin American-Statesman, Fire Battalion Chief Don Smith cited electrical code violations, amplified noise violations and structures built without permits.

The Monarch Summerfest | Featuring Haunting Oboe Music, Ume + More

The Monarch Summerfest | Featuring Haunting Oboe Music, Ume + More

This Saturday The Monarch Events Center is hosting a very special event featuring some of Austin’s finest up and coming indie artists. Ume, Ringo Deathstarr, Haunting Oboe Music (ex-Clap! Clap!), Prayer For Animals, Red X Red M, Follow That Bird! and Hey Zeus are scheduled to perform.
Haunting Oboe Music is one of my local indie favorites because they aren’t afraid to venture into experimental, featuring synth, keys and trumpet in addition to traditional rock instrumentation. Extending their unconventional methods into their recordings, Haunting Oboe Music is releasing an EP each month this year. More info and a full review to …read more

Album Review | Dead Earth Politics “Mark The Resistance” EP

Album Review | Dead Earth Politics “Mark The Resistance” EP

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Austin’s local metal scene is under appreciated. However, bands like Dead Earth Politics are keeping it alive. Their debut EP, Mark The Resistance has built Dead Earth Politics’ buzz around town and is raising the bar for local metal bands across the board.
Mark The Resistance is a brief five song EP, but in those five songs they display a metal repertoire that ranges from hardcore to melodic. Two tracks in particular stand out on the melodic end of the spectrum, Whisper Diseases and A Thousand More. Well crafted, hard hitting songs, …read more

New Driver F Video “Temple Of Doom”

New Driver F Video “Temple Of Doom”

Local pop punkers Driver F have a new video out, for their song Temple Of Doom. This is the second single from the band’s album Chase The White Whale.
Temple Of Doom gets an A+ for a well produced video that will take you back to the days of dodgeball in high school gym class. Or in some cases, the marching band horn section.
