Exit Fest this Saturday | The Black & White Years, Cruiserweight, Skyblue72 & More
Even though tomorrow is a holiday for just about everyone, don’t party too hard. Exit Fest is this Saturday (7/5) at Waterloo Park.
Some of the best regional and local acts are playing, including The Black & White Years. The Austin-based four-piece were discovered by Talking Heads keyboardist/guitarist Jerry Harrison during SXSW 2007. Harrison was drawn to see The Black & White Years after early reviews noted their Talking Heads influence. Most often described as indie electro-rock, I recommend them for fans of new wave.
Cruiserweight has been a local favorite since relocating to Austin via Dallas in 2000. Playing pop punk with energetic singer Stella Maxwell at the helm, they’ve opened for bands like The Get Up Kids and New Found Glory and were signed to Doghouse Records in 2005. Cruiserweight’s second full length, Big Bold Letters is slated for release later this year.
Houston’s burgeoning music scene has brought us music of all genres, including Skyblue72’s award winning pop rock. They won Best Pop Band at the Houston Press Music Awards in 2007 and have been tearing up the Texas roadways criss-crossing the state.
