The Mother Truckers’ Collins-Zee sister slain
The Austin – American Statesman and Marin Independent Journal are reporting that Ginger Bass, sister of The Mother Truckers singer Teal Collins-Zee, was slain in an apparent murder-suicide attempt by Bass’ ex-husband.
The Mother Truckers are scheduled to play Fairfax Festival in Marin County, CA this Saturday and are reportedly still planning to perform.
Austin Sound Check wishes to express our deepest condolences to Teal Collins-Zee and her family. If any readers would like to leave their condolences in the comments section, they will be sent on to the band.

That is just so sad. My heart goes out to their families…
Teal and TMT,
Your dedication of “I’ll Meet You There” to your sister did not go unnoticed last Friday night at Slim’s in SF. Our hearts and prayers are with you. Though we are just faces and folks dancing in the blur of shows, your music has touched us in ways too many to count. Memories have been forged around campfires, during long drives to the mountains, and quiet moments at the end of a long day–music has been central to all of it. We have been touched by something truly special and are ever grateful.
We’ve been longtime Fairfax Fest fans, joined you on the boat on the SF Bay last year, and took in the show at Slim’s just last weekend with our now teenage daughter and her musically inclined friend–she thinks that all parents take their 14 year old to experience live music–if that were only the case the world would be a better place I think. Freebird was never better!!
Can’t quite come up with the right words Teal, but know that a family in Corte Madera mourns your loss. Wishing you peace of heart and mind and sending much love your way.
Mary, Jay and Kelsey
