Local Musician calls for Austin Java boycott

Local Musician calls for Austin Java boycott

News 8 Austin is reporting that Austin musician Marcia Ball called for a boycott of Austin Java in light of some development concerns.
Ball apparently feels that the developers of the Barton Place Condos (which include the owners of Austin Java) have reneged on a promise to preserve trees in the planned construction area. Rick Engel, owner of Austin Java has issued a statement in response to Ball’s boycott, which was announced at her Blues on The Green performance last Wednesday.
Click here for more information on the boycott. You can also view Engel’s response to Ball here.

Driver F | New Album, Tour & Mustaches

Driver F | New Album, Tour & Mustaches

Driver F’s new album Chase the White Whale is ten tracks of pure alt-pop goodness. What will ultimately win you over is the pleading, love-stricken vocals that are reminiscent of Jimmy Eat World. But vocals is where the JEW comparison begins and ends, as Driver F very effectively incorporates a horn section (trumpet & trombone) that will please fans of 90’s ska. Elements of pop punk create a very peppy, upbeat sound that Driver F executes very well. I highly recommend Suncrusher and Two Words, Mr. President… Plausible Deniability. (Video for Two Words is below for your viewing pleasure).

Live Review | Gobi at Plush 6-19-08

Live Review | Gobi at Plush 6-19-08

First, and most importantly, Plush is too small for Gobi. The duo has a very Ghostland Observatory-esque feel to them which naturally lends its self to dancing and generally having a good time. Gobi packed  Plush, and there wasn’t much room to move, let alone dance.
That being said, I wholeheartedly endorse Gobi. They take some electronics and a guitar and create music that is upbeat, danceable and yet complex. For lack of a better analogy, Gobi makes music that is a playground for the ears. On this particular occasion, even the eyes got a show. Cool electronic shirts that moved …read more
