July 5th at Waterloo Park, Exit Music Group presents the first annual Exit Fest (aka Born on the 5th of July Fest). Featuring a lineup of great local talent, confirmed acts include Patrice Pike, Cruiserweight, The Boxing Lesson, Skyblue72, and Black & White Years.
Skyblue72 is a relatively unknown band, but watch for big things from them in the future. They play Austin semi-regularly at clubs like Momo’s and Antone’s. Breakaway Records is the Eastside’s newest destination for all your vinyl needs. They are celebrating their grand opening with a party of epic proportions, featuring tons of live music and free beer.
Located at 1704 E 5th, Breakaway Records is just 1/2 mile east of downtown, next to Cafe Mundi. It’s close and the beer is free, but if that wasn’t enough motivation check out the lineup for their grand opening.

The first annual Pachanga Festival will be held this Saturday at Waterloo Park. Headliners include Vallejo, Grupo Fantasma, Maneja Beto and many more. I’m most excited to see San Antonio natives Girl in a Coma.
As if being signed to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records wasn’t enough, the Girls are fresh off a solid year of touring which saw them opening for Morrissey in Europe. I should also mention that they play Austin regularly, including SXSW 2007 and 2008. After Pachanga Fest, Girl in a Coma is performing at the Oklahoma City stop on Cyndi Lauper’s True Colors Tour.

Robert “Lowkey” Hein of Austin group Dred Skott was arrested for public intoxication and resisting arrest after the group opened for Bun B at Emo’s last week.
Two local sources lead me to believe that there is more to the story and call into question the use of force, which included a taser and batons.
Did anybody witness the arrest?

Friday night at The Parish, locals Full Service and Grimy Styles take the stage for what promises to be a great night for fans of rock, reggae and dub. Doors are at 9pm, with Full Service on first, followed by Grimy Styles headlining the night.

The Band of Heathens first came together at Austin’s legendary Momo’s in 2006. Since then, they’ve added a rhythm section, released two live albums and won several awards at 2007’s Austin Music Awards; most notably Best New Band.

Bun B is still relatively unknown in the mainstream, even after all the attention he and UGK (Underground Kingz) gained after the untimely death of UGK partner Pimp C. As UGK, the duo owned the Texas underground rap scene since 1987. Their first album came in 1992, and by 2000 UGK was working with artists like Three 6 Mafia and Jay-Z.
